Hard to imagine how huge top line Amateur football was until the 60's, when the full impact of the well paid professional game took its toll.

Before that, it made as lot of financial sense for good quality players to stick with Amateur games or semi-professional and pursue their career elsewhere.

Mind you, I can only imagine the comments from North West London when they were told their semi final was at Sunderland. Hardly a neutral ground.

This Hendon side were top class though and went on to the final that year.
